I have to share this beautiful self-portrait photo of Marla Red, taken with her iphone.

Beauty never stops and we want to capture it whenever we can! Good work to Marla for the great photo and cudos to her Mom and Dad for creating a beautiful photo subject!
Happy b-day Marla! Hugs from Colleen (gjfoto.com)
This past weekend Marla and I had our first shoot together. I hesitate to call it a “test shoot” as that seems to imply that we didn’t take it as seriously as if it were a “non-test shoot”. Not true – we both treated it very professionally. Yes, we photographed our lovely subjects seriously, but we also had fun and kidded around throughout the process.
What I wanted to find out during the course of this initial cooperative shoot was how we worked and functioned together. Would we need to discuss logistics? Like who shoots when, do we each shoot for 5 minutes while the other one sits on the sideline, do we both shoot more or less at the same time, etc., etc., etc. I know from other situations where more than one photographer is shooting the same subject, that we get very similar images. It’s in the post-processing phase where the images take on the personal style and character of the artist creating them. Still, I didn’t want our images to be TOO much alike, especially since we have similar styles to begin with.
We basically didn’t need to have any “logistics” discussion before the session began, except when I showed Marla how the radio triggers and receivers worked for my lighting equipment (we’re shooting in my studio in center city Philadelphia). Once our models were ready, we just started shooting together rather naturally and we seemed to easily keep out of each other’s way.
One benefit from a “test shoot” was that it gave me the perfect opportunity to pull out a mosquito net that I had gotten from eBay for around $3 including the shipping. I thought it could lend itself to some cool shoot-through effects. As it turned out, it was neat not only for that, but it made for an interesting backdrop as well.
Enough chatter – below are a few of the photos we both took that day. I grabbed a few of the photos Marla posted on Facebook and then for comparison, selected some of mine that were similar. It gives a nice side-by-side comparison of our similar – but unique – styles.

Photographers Marla Red and Colleen D. Gjefle have formed an alliance! We came across one another on the website Model Mayhem and we had to meet. Our styles are similar, as are our personalities. So it was inevitable that we collaborate.
What both of us love most is dramatic, high-contrast black & white photography – beauty with an edge. We both love boudoir as well, so we’re offering the ladies of the Philadelphia area our own style of beauty. We have a perfect place for boudoir or bachelorette parties in the Old City section of Philly.
To give you a taste of what we’re about, here are some photos :
